Biographical notes:

The 1891 England Census lists William Charman's birth year as 1886 which would have made him 30 when he died, but on the CWGC casualty details his age was listed as 21.

William's enlistment address was 75 Lincoln Rd, this is the same address as Thomas Moore, a coachsmith - possibly he was doing a coachsmith apprenticeship.

Wairarapa Daily Times, 9 October 1916 "Private W. H. Charman, of Masterton, who left with the 6th Reinforcements, and who saw service at Gallipoli, has been killed in action. The deceased was a nepew of Mr W. Charman, of Manaia, and when the war broke out was one of the first to enlist at Masterton, but on account of his youth he had to stand down."
