Biographical notes:

Son of Hiu te Miha Danger and Te Iwi Ngaro Hiu of Greytown.

Serial number appears as 16/575 in nominal rolls, but as 16/575a in Archives New Zealand and CWGC.

James' Maori name was Hemi Te Miha.

He enlisted at Takapuna, Auckland on 1 July 1915 at the age of 22. His occupation was given as a self-employed farmer with current service in the Wairarapa Mounted Rifles and past service in the School Cadets.
