Biographical notes:
He attended Masterton School until he passed Standard 1. He was then registered for admission to Longbush School 12 December, 1904. He passed standard 2 on 11 April 1906 and standard 4 in December 1909 at Longbush School.

In the Wairarapa Daily Times (30 June 1917) in the "Personal Items" column it said: "Mr and Mrs J Bannister, of Longbush, received a telegram yesterday from Sir James Allen, stating that their son, Private D (sic).M. Bannister, who left with the 14th Reinforcements, had died from wounds received in action in France. Much sympathy will be felt for Mr and Mrs Bannister in the loss of such a fine son."
