Batt, a quick-witted seanachie (storyteller) in the old Irish tradition, was a former school principal and author in Ireland before becoming a full-time storyteller in the USA in 1994 after he featured at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough. He has appeared at all of the major storytelling festivals in the USA including the Connecticut Millennium Festival in April 2000. Burns has featured at several major universities including Havard, Notre Dame, Northwestern and Kent State where he was a storyteller in residence. He directs teacher workshops and takes school assemblies. During the summer months he hosts cultural and literary tours of Ireland and he has led a number of storytelling tours.
