Welcome to the Wairapapa Branch of the NZSG

The Wairarapa Branch of this organisation started on 26 July 1982 with a meeting held in the home of Mrs Dianne Grant.  At that meeting the late Mr Peter Hunter acted as Chairman for the election of officers with the elected  Chairman being Mr Brian Robinson.  The inaugural meeting of the NZ Society of Genealogists, Masterton Group was held at the Orange Hall, on Monday 31 October 1983.

The Branch met at various halls over the years on a monthly basis until we were offered the premises that we are in now at 79 Queen Street, Masterton.  We opened our Research Centre to the public and members alike on 5 September 2000.  This shop is very handily placed as we are next door to Wairarapa Archives, across the road to Masterton Library and a few hundred metres from Aratoi.  We are now in the educational area of town.

We open the rooms:

  • Tuesday - 1pm to 4pm
  • Thursday - 1pm to 4pm
  • Saturday - 10am to 4pm
  • Other times by arrangement.

We welcome enquiries and are willing to help get people started on their search for family history.   We do not charge but as we are a chartiable organisation a donation is gladly accepted.
